The Crosbyton Chamber of Commerce congratulates the Housing Authority of the City of Crosbyton, the Business of the Month for October.  The Housing Authority is located on Berkshire Street.  The office is run by Executive Director, Darla Doss and Assistant Director Susie Justus.  The apartments of the Housing Authority are maintained by Jimmy Doss and Richard Wallace.  The Housing Authority’s mission is to provide safe, clean, affordable housing for its tenants.  It functions under the directives of the national cabinet office of HUD, Housing and Urban Development.  The office staff reports to HUD on its populations, apartments and on all financial information.

Darla Doss, oversees daily operations and works closely with a board of five Crosbyton citizens that include Chairman Betty Upchurch, Vice- Chairman, Amy Harris, Dot Witt, Nora Jean Long, and Asneth Barrera.  Darla praises their work as a board and comments them for their community service.

Supervisor Jimmy Doss and Assistant Richard Wallace build cabinets in their shop, keep appliances running, and ready apartments for new tenants.  Each of the Authority apartments has a refrigerator, stove, and central heating and air.  The Housing Authority maintains the grounds and pays the water bill for each unit.  To be eligible for an apartment the prospective tenant must pass a criminal check, credit check, and a former landlord check.  The entire staff and board works to provide affordable housing in the City of Crosbyton.

Our recognized business for September, Moses Farms,  has been a part of the Crosbyton landscape for three generations that include Don Moses, D.J. Moses, and Dee Moses.   The Chamber recognizes their exceptional contributions to agriculture on the plains and their generosity to many causes in Crosbyton.  It is with pleasure that the Chamber received the help of Jarita Moses in  announcing that the Chamber Board voted in August to change the name of the Chamber of Commerce to the “Crosbyton Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture.”

The Moses Farm business operations are housed in an historic building in the downtown square of Crosbyton on West Aspen Street.  The farm operations are spread throughout the county.  But the Moses’ have also developed a new paradigm for farm management  on the plains.  Jarita’s son Dee oversees the farms, but not from his home in Crosbyton or even his home in Crosby County.  Dee and wife Donna live abroad.  Dee returns regularly to take care of business.  This model works because Rene Cruz and his son Brad are exceptional farm operators here in Crosby County.  The Crosbyton Chamber of Commerce and Agricultural would like to thank the Moses family for their support and contributions to our community.
